Dear Jean, I don't think there has been an accurate study on wet diapers,
only mec. Most of us use the "rule of thumb" of one per day of life to
day 4-5 and then expect 6-8 minimum once milk is in. Remember colostrum is
small volume. Also a baby overloaded with mom's IV fluids would pee
more, which wouldn't really be an accurate reflection of intake per ora.
But most of what we know is myth/personal beliefs. I don't think anyone
really knows.
It would be a huge study and depending on who financed it and setting,
would be very problematic. Which standard, BF baby or formula chug-a-lug
baby ? What's normal? Where does normal happen? If situation isn't
normal, what should we expect? When I think of the the possible variables
I shudder :-( Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
