I nabbed an August 1995 Texas Monthly magazine at the orthodontists today
[he was raving about breastfeeding by the way, and telling proudly how he
donated a bunch of long-nosed syringes to the local LLL folks :) ]. The
cover story of the Texas Monthly is titled "Silicone City: How Houston
Created the Implant. How the Implant Recreated Houston. A tale of Big
Breasts and Big Money."

I've only read about half the article so far, but it almost made me lose my
lunch. It's about the huge wave of silicone breast implants in Houston in
the 1980s and continuing today. One of the plastic surgeons who has made
his fortune on these has a swimming pool shaped like a breast, with a hot
tub for the nipple. They show a photograph of the pool from the air! The
article talks about a mother/daughter pair who both have implants -- the
mother gave them to her daughter for a high school graduation present. It
also talks about topless upscale dance-bars, and the role they play in
promoting the idea that everyone has to have huge breasts. I'm only
half-way through, but so far not one word about what breasts are really
for.......
