As a LLL leader years ago, I also recommended the ice cube trays for easy
and inexpensive storage options. However, in NC, the milk has to arrive in the
bottle for the day care to give. They cannot take an ice cube of milk out of a
bag of cubes, and prepare a bottle on site. So moms have to freeze in the
bottles, or thaw the milk partially in the AM and make the bottles to take that
day. I did have some moms who used the ice cube trays, and would chip the
milk into pieces with an ice pick and put in the bottles in the AM but that
takes some time that most moms didn't have in the AM. Moms need to check with
the child care provider to see what methods they recommend. It is also
helpful for lactation consultants to consult with their local child care regulatory
agencies to see how child care providers are instructed in their states.
