I have dealt with this more than once. It is tricky - trying to choose your
words carefully when discussing prolactin etc. But praise her for the good
things, tell her you'll help her when the time comes to wean (relinquish) and
be there for her. Hope that someone at home will be supportive as well. Tell
her that her baby will know it was loved and this will build a bond forever.
I've been reading a bit lately on the topic of grief and grieving and just
listening is the MOST important thing you will ever do. Don't pretend that
this is something to get over and move on. Oh gosh, I'm being preachy -
sorry.
Be strong and be there.
