not vit d def. causing rickets in Nigerian children studied.

In an editorial, Dr. Nicholas Bishop, of the University of Sheffield in the
UK, agrees that calcium deficiency was the likely cause of nutritional
rickets in the Nigerian children, noting that African children often consume
few calcium-rich foods after weaning. He recommends that African mothers
"...need to be encouraged to
breastfeed for at least 18 months and calcium from a cheap, locally
available source must be incorporated into the diet."
