Grief is incredibly varied. No one symptom should ever be required of any
person in any situation at any time. We cry openly, we "put on brave
fronts," we sleep too little, we sleep too much, we eat too little, we eat
too much, we talk about our loss, we swallow our feelings, life comes to a
halt, life goes on... There is no one right way to grieve, no one right
amount of time to take. Regardless of its shape or duration, the only
things that are universal about grief is that it hurts, is emotionally and
physically depleting, and benefits from the very ongoing respect and
support of others. If a mother loses her milk in grief, it is very possibly
a sign that she is not getting the support she needs to compensate for her
emotional and physical depletion. How is this a tribute to the lost
beloved? If a mother does not lose her milk supply, then blessed be that
mother and child as they continue with life and take comfort in each other.
Grief no more denies life than continuing to live dishonors the dead.

In grief and life,

Cynthia
