I think there are already WIC LCs going to hospitals. Way back in
1988, I was hired by WIC in Florida to work as an LC. I went to the
hospital 3-4 times a week (I even had my own office - a converted
closet) to spread the good word about breastfeeding and help the
mothers who wanted to breastfeed. It was Florida's only indigent
hospital and has since closed, but at the time, I saw great success
with initiation rates and duration. I also did home visits when
necessary. It was quite fulfilling work.
WIC does A LOT, in my opinion to promote breastfeeding. They are
often maligned. I say applaud them for what they do.
