You would also have to consider the body fat of vegetarian mothers. And
really, you would be comparing vegan and non-vegan mothers, since so much of
animal protein comes from cow's milk. Many vegetarians consume very high
quantities of cow's milk and I wonder if such consumption during pregnancy
(you know, the good ole American Dairy Board here in the US is as powerful as
the makers of AIM) would also have an impact, especially since many
vegetarians think they need more protein than they do and consume cow's milk
to make up for the meat they don't eat.
    As Rachel and someone else clarified so well, LA and LAM are not the same
thing, so would you look at length of LA or length of time a mother is able
to use the LAM or both. Just musing, as such a study would be fascinating to
look at in the Western world.
    And to add one more LA number to the list--my lengths of time for LA were
20 mos, 30 mos and 24 mos. My dd, who was in the middle, was definately the
most dependent on nursing really often in her early years, so I am not
surprised.
