There has been a lot of discussion regarding this and frankly it makes me a
little anxious. I think for a lot of babies 1.5oz/fd. may be way too much on
day 3 and in fact if we believe that breast feeding is the norm then a
breastfdng baby is probably getting far less than this at a feed, remembering
that many Moms still have colostrum only at this point! I realize that this
is just a guide but often guides become dictums whereby it becomes imperative
that the intake be measured, calculated , graphed etc, babies are force fed,
tube fed etc when all they need is a couple of days to get it "right" and
start gaining, the ultimate goal after all!
