Hello Jaye,
Mom should have her levels accuarately diagnosed. There are natural
and chemcial supplements to normalize thyroid levels, thus reducing the risk
of a milk supply problem. I have used a product called Thyrosol(a dietary
supplement for thyroid support) from Metagenics to support low thyroid
function which was not revealed in blood tests, but my naturopath suspected.
For additional information go to www.metagenics.com. She should want to do
this for herself regardless because she would feel better if her body were
functioning optimally. If/when she gets pregnant and has her baby you would
want to carefully watch the diapers and do frequent weight checks to make
certain there was enough milk.
I had one mom who had a prior thyroidectomy with chronic low milk
supply with her first baby. Same problem occurred with second baby. Her
thyroid blood tests indicated normal functioning and doc would not increase
her medications. We used domperidone and More Milk Plus tincture to
successfully breastfeed without supplementation.
	Hope this helps.
