I need some help. A colleague of mine is following a breastfed infant who
developed intermittent vaginal bleeding, apparently coinciding with her
mother's periods, at 6 months of age. The infant is now 8 months and has had
several physical exams showing no trauma, a normal MRI and ultrasound of the
pelvis, and a vaginoscope which revealed no source of the bleeding. Sexual
abuse is unlikely. The physician is investigating the infant's diet other
than breastmilk. Has anyone ever experienced late vaginial bleeding in an
infant, possibly due to hormones in the breastmilk?
