I find it very interesting that several others have also noted a decrease
in milk supply after the introduction of birth control pills, including
the "safe" minipill. I, too, have had several of these, and after
thorough screening for other factors, the removal of the minipill
resulted in a resurgence of milk supply. When I mentioned this on the
midwife listserv recently, I was immediately challenged by one midwife
who says that she has been prescribing it for years with no problems. My
response was that I don't generally hear from mothers who are successful,
I hear from mothers who are having a problem, and I screen them
appropriately. She wanted references to support my position, and of
course I don't have any. If there are more of you out there with the
same experience, maybe it's time for a study?!
