Hello all,

Although I am not Asian, I will put my 02 cents in on this. I would say that this Tiger Mother would be stereotypical--but more often then not is how children are raised---but it also depends on area and economics and education level of the parents, etc. My husband is Vietnamese. His family came to this country when he was 11. All of the children were breastfed and they practiced co-sleeping---but it could be said that this is how it was done as there was no formula where his family was and they only had one room--so of course they all slept together. My husband was raised in a manner described in this article---and worse--very harsh. When I met him, he was in a shell--he did not thrive.

A few years ago his mother actually told him that she and her husband were wrong in how they raised all 8 children. That they were too harsh, and she did not want him to do the same( we do not see family very often being in the military)---which he has not---but it has been a struggle to break away from how he was raised.

Kind Regards,

Gloria Thai
Va.
