Kathy and others,

Of COURSE mothers should have childcare plans in case of emergencies! For
the child's sake, a mother should "make" herself make friends and offer to
recipricate in case of any emergencies such as severe illnesses or
accidents. (Jury duty doesn't count - you should be able to get out of that
if you're nursing especially since there is a chance of sequesture.)  Join
a playgroup, meet the neighbors, join LLL, a church, whatever puts you in a
place where there are other mothers. IMHO it "is" irresponsible to put your
child in a position to be cared for by strangers if you aren't able to care
for him.
