My understanding is that mom does NOT need to wait for 2-3 hours until after
a glass of wine (or any other alcoholic drink) because the alcohol levels
are SO low that it is negligible.  If you look at the numbers:  Even if mom
has a blood/breastmilk alcohol level of .08% the baby's body will process
that tiny amount down even more before it has an effect on the baby.  

 

A quote from Jack Newman's "More Breastfeeding Myths" : A mother should not
drink alcohol while breastfeeding. Not true! Reasonable alcohol intake
should not be discouraged at all. As is the case with most drugs, very
little alcohol comes out in the milk. The mother can take some alcohol and
continue breastfeeding as she normally does. Prohibiting alcohol is another
way we make life unnecessarily restrictive for nursing mothers.
