Netters,
i have been seeing all this thread about baby friendly , who pays for the
formula etc. it is all quite interesting. One of the hospitals (and my local
one BTW) is not baby friendly nor do they intent to become so, 1, they don't
deliver babies- that is another rant, and peds patients are on the floor
with regular patients, we have only 2 peds in this county- and they work at
the same place. back to subjuect at hand. While doing clinical rounds two
non breastfeeding babies were hospitalized for URI. I asked if the formula
was free placed by the reps. thy said NO each bottle is charged to the
infants account - just like a food tray. If they have insurance the
insurance or state insurance (medicaide) has to pay for it. if medicaide it
is the taxpayer paying for formula. The formula given is also in patients
chard and recorded on the MAR- for non nurses docs that is the medication
Administration Record- . If they parents do not want to be charged for
formula or diapers they must bring their own or have it brought to them.

Just thought so different form other hospitals and those who are going
feindly are wondering where is the money to be made up. Just charge for it-
insuyance does pay for it. Thsy will not let the babies starve.

School is going well, just so hard to keep my mouth shut when it comes to
breastfeeding. Well after the reproductive system maybe i can open my
mouth. THat is next. Hurray.
Take care. MechellTurner M.Ed. IBCLC, STudent nurse
