Our hospital's breastfeeding policy does not address cup feeding as an issue in
itself. Cup feeding is mentioned in the bf policy as one of the ways to
supplement the bf infant. It is considered routine; not at all out of the
ordinary. How interesting that institutions vary so greatly in practice.

It is particularly interesting that cup feeding is thought to be new as it has
been practiced for 3000 yrs. or so. I have seen reference to an infant feeding
cup found in the burial site along side of infant bones in some area of
China--some date BC. The particular clipping is probably also buried somewhere
in my office!
