Hi, All: Two things I want to add to this discussion.
          1. You could line up 10 women and ask them to nurse their babies
in the cradle hold with asymmetric latch. You will see 10
different "cradle holds" and 10 different "latches". If the mom and baby
are comfortable, if mom's nipples are comfortable during the feeding, and
baby is getting milk, they are FINE! Doesn't really matter what it looks
like as long as the feeding is meeting these 3 criteria.
          2. Each mother and baby must learn to breastfeed themselves. It
is the responsibility of both the mother and her baby to LEARN
breastfeeding. And they do this by practicing by themselves, after some
education. All the nurses, doctors, and lactation consultants in the world
sticking their 2 cents in are not going to make it work for the
mother/baby. Each mother and her baby must be given, and need the time, to
learn this on their own. My responsibility as the consultant is to give
the mother the information she needs to help herself and her baby learn how
to breastfeed. And I'm available to her for additional help if she needs it.
