I've been distributing these same glycerin gel dressings for months now
(one pair free per client who needs them, if they need more, they are
responsible for ordering them). I purchased mine from a surgical supply
house, they are called Comfort Aid gel dressings, and are manufactured
by Southwest Technologies. They are disappearing from the supply
houses, as I believe Maturna bought out the circular product and
christened them soothies. Other sizes and shapes of comfort aid
dressings are available.

Moms have been very pleased with them. The product feels cool on the
sore nipple, blocks exposed nerve endings from contact with air and
clothing, and ostensibly provides a moist wound healing environment.
I've observed fast healing of nipple fissures or ulcers when these are
worn every non-nursing moment for 24-48 hours. And the look on the
Mom's face when she applies one is priceless, they almost always sigh
with relief.

The downside is that one study showed an increase in mastitis when
hydrogels were used on nipple wounds. We don't know if the same is true
of glycerin gels, but I don't think it is, from my limited experience of
about 50 pairs distributed. Some day I will get the time to go through
my case records and count mastitis rates before and after I started
