I have not seen the original post about the campaign but I sadly say that no amount of teaching will reach the mom's boyfriend, paramour, etc. with whom the child has been left to answer a child's needs. We're dealing with many people with many problems, who themselves have been raised with little love and caring, many have substance abuse issues, etc. (Although there are cases of shaken baby from all socioeconomic classes-this past year I worked on two cases where mothers were nurses and teachers). The damage to many of these children is horrific--perm. brain damage, blindness, etc.The downside of this campaign sounds like it encourages those who would not otherswise harm their babies to leave them crying.Melissa Vance, in her role as a child welfare attorney, not a LLLL.
