People have a right to work without being accused of being whores. The only
prohibition IBCLCs face is the ethical obligation not to work for companies
that violate the WHO code. The definition of being a consultant is that
people hire you for your expertise. This includes corporate clients. I
consult with Motorola and Apple and IBM and have sold photos to Medela and
advised both Hollister and Medela (for free) on the issue of changing their
flange sizes to accommodate more ranges of human nipples. To the best of my
knowledge none of this in any way is illegal, immoral, unhelpful, stupid, or
secret. No matter how much they might offer me, there are companies
(including Enron) and individuals that I wouldn't work for or with because I
just don't like the way they behave.

I resent on her behalf, the accusation that someone who has given to our
field as generously as Nancy Mohrbacher would stand accused of being
unethical because she took a job at a pump company to support herself and
her family. You know, Chele Marmet and Kittie Frantz got paid for their
work developing materials for pump companies. Shall we go after them now?
How about those of you who work or have worked for the federal government
(largest distributers of formula)? Are you also corrupt by association?
What about those of you who keep silent in institutions whose policies you
know work against bfg? Such spurious and specious acts of
public-mud-slinging that occur constantly on this list are divisive. They
place individuals in the untenable position of having to defend themselves
against vague and unsupported accusations in a hostile public forum, and
come perilously close to slander.

By the time this vigilantism runs to it's logical conclusion, the only ones
of us pure enough to do our work will be the volunteers. If anyone on this
list has a problem with someone's ethics, it is their obligation to file an
ethics complaint to IBLCE where a panel will rule on the complaint. If you
aren't willing to do this, then be careful of flinging inuendo in public
that has the effect of ruining reputations.
