I too have psoriasis, mostly affecting my eyes. Psoriasis is inherited. I have the gene for it (my MD did DNA testing before making the diagnosis). I was also tested for vitamin D and was found abysmally low. It has taken me 3 years including large loading doses of the D3 before maintenance doses, to get my levels up to therapeutic/normal. I think one of the problems is setting up a "normal" level for lab tests. How is that established? By finding folks who are known to NOT have d-deficiency diseases and testing them, then comparing to those who DO have those problems. Dr. Hartmann explained it best to me - when trying to make any scientific study, the first thing to do is to find a way to measure normal without changing what is normal. VERY difficult to do in vivo. That's why medicine - whether it be allopathic or naturopathic - is difficult to bring to a method that works with insurance, like auto insurance. You can't just pull out a broken part, order a new one, pay for it and be done!!

Subject: autoimmune disease, bf, and diet

Hi Jennifer, as a person who struggles with autoimmune disease and psoriatic arthritis ( a form of rheumatoid arthritis) I am so interested in your statement that is is nutrtional in nature /cause... and that the solution is nutritional. Can you please site your reference for that, as I am personally interested in any new information that I can find. I have more than a passing knowledge of nutrition, yet I have never heard this correlation or a cause/effect relationship either. I have seen a naturopath and done extensive work with him, and with acupuncture, and have no luck, by the way. Long story not needed here, but I just wanted to know more info and documentation if you have it. Thank you. Kathleen Bruce RN IBCLC, Lactnet listmother
