Let's not assume that the lack of attendance on non-gray hair is due to
"eating our young"! As an Old (1985) IBCLC, I would point out is that the
younger IBCLCs also have more family expenses and more family
responsibilities than I have.

Actually, in ALL conferences of professionals that I have attended I see
that it is the more established ones, who have more "free" time to attend.
Someone just starting out their Pediatric practice probably doesn't get to
go to the AAP Convention, either!

This year only some of the supervisors and managers got to go to WIC
national meetings. When budgets are tight - personal or corporate - the
younger/newer ones don't get to go.

This is one of the reasons that we need to make sure that local Coalitions
and Affiliates provide education and support. In our Coalition, at least
ONE educational topic is covered at every meeting. We also try to facilitate
shadowing and visiting each others' job sites to learn from others'
experiences. That's one way to "feed" our young!

Lactnet, Computer courses, using the discussion boards in the ILCA website
are also additional ways of reaching out to each other. The IBCLC2B
listserve helps those preparing for the test. There are actually a LOT of
IBCLCs reaching out to help others - surely more than I just mentioned.
