Hi,

I'm looking for anything new I may have missed in helping a mother with a 3-
month old baby and recurrent caking of the breast. This mother is prone to
oversupply. She began to try resolving this issue 10 days ago with one-sided
nursing, which seems to have made her problem worse. She contacted me
today to tell me that BOTH of her breasts are now full and hard, and that they
are not emptying well with either feeding or pumping (she has a Whittlestone,
and it normally works well). She is in a lot of pain, but does not have any
direct symptoms of mastitis - no fever, redness, chills, or body aches.

She has used lecithin unsuccessfully (one capsule every hour for four hours
straight, followed by feeding of baby - this worked once but has not worked
since). She has also used cabbage and ice, alternating with heat.

Today I have her trying epsom salt soaks before every feeding, and I've
advised her to get lymphatic drainage therapy tomorrow.

I've stopped short of recommending sage tea and sudafed, because I don't
know if this would be helpful - I think the problem is related more to the
unresolved plug than her supply.

Any tips? Thanks!!
