Hi to all,
One of our nurses has an 8 yr old girl with polland (sp?) syndrome. The
muscles of the chest wall are not present either unilaterally or bilaterally.
This child does have nipples on both sides and the side without the muscles
does look like breast tissue is beginning to develop.( You can see and feel some
lumps /nodules around the nipple). Does anyone have any information on this
condition? Or has anyone seen an adult with this condition? The mother hopes
the child will develop bilateral breast tissue and of course be able to breast
feed a child at some future date in time. I don't know if the child will need to
have some reconstructive surgery to "fill in" the one side of her chest.
Thanks,
Jan Aken RN IBCLC
