I think what you all are referring to wrt boiling di
water is the lack of "particles" in the water may
cause it to "bump".  I know when I took chemistry-
pre-biochemisty- we would add something to the boiling
vessel to prevent that.  Of course, I can't recall
what it is.  :-)
