Dear Susan,
I think this is a great opportunity for you to inform women of the truth about infant feeding. A woman I once cared for (I am a midwife and LC living in Adelaide in South Australia) who was breastfeeding well and enjoying it. She told me however that until she had been to an antenatal class and was told of all of the properties of breastmilk that she was going to bottlefeed her baby as she thought breastfeeding was revolting. She is in marketing and didn't want her baby to miss out. Most of her friends had bad stories of feeding and only fed for a few days and they kept ringing her to see if she had stopped yet which made her even more determined. I know that research states that most women have made up their mind way before they get pregnant but there may be someone in your audience that may change their mind. Infant feeding is so often presented as a choice 'are you going to breast or bottle feed' like do you want plain or chicken chips! Women can only make an informed decision if they know the all of the facts. Gee infant formula companies say breast is best but then go on to undermine it. Good luck Jackie Kitschke
