Hi Diane,
It wasn't clear from your post, what or if the mom is doing to
"battle thrush" -- and whether the rash is constant or only happens during a
nursing session...if it only happens during a session I have to wonder if
you're dealing with a contact dermatitis type problem (on the hips from baby
in the lap contact) -- any deodorants, diaper creams, mom creams, etc been
ruled out?
If it's constant and there is oral thrush, what about gentian violet
on the the rash? also does she know about treating the family laundry and
Daddy as well for a bad thrush outbreak? -- the pacifier may be a site of re
exposure -- latex nipples are notorious for harboring yeast, even when
washed, I'd suggest throwing away all pacifiers currently in use and boiling
any newly bought and used ones every day for at least ten minutes then
rinsing them in either baking soda solution or vinegar (WHITE vinager, apple
cider vinegar won't be effective) and just to cover all bases throw in a
reminder not to give a newly boiled pacifier to the baby -- boiling water
can be retained inside the nipple and cause a serious burn...
For more info on dealing with stubborn yeast check archives and/or
e-mail me, happy to give more details!!

good luck,
anne

p.s. every three hours or so sounds pretty okay for a baby his age with a
good supply and good growth, did I misunderstand the "or so" to mean it's
very erratic or sometimes much longer between nursings?
