Thank you Maureen M. for your comments on chin forward attachment! I have
seen so many mothers who claimed their baby refused the breast
immediately resolve the problem by helping their baby get their chin in first
with pressure on the shoulders rather than the head. I learned from a man
that does chiropractic measurements (amazing what my clients share) that even
adults respond to pressure on the back of their head by moving toward the
pressure. It makes me cringe to see the baby with bruising from a vacum
extraction pushed onto the breast by a mother. I have heard many nurses tell
mothers they just need to take control and make the baby latch on.
For those of you who caught my posts a few weeks back- I have been taking the
Growing Kids God's Way program at my church. I now see how these families get
caught up in this program. Our first weeks have been spent focusing on the
importance of the marriage relationship, couch time, and communicating. using
a non threatening first few lessons- who is goning to deny that communication
is imprortant in a marriage or that cihildren are affected by divorce- The
Ezzo's have won the confidence of everyone in class (except me, I'm still mad
about being called a nitpicker in class). The example of a nightwaking three
yearold who was cured by seeing her parents have couch time for a week was
hard to take-all of their examples of expected behavior changes seem totally
unrealistic to me. To defend/explain couch time a little better, I did not
get the feeling from class that this has to be done the minute the dad gets
home. They encourage a time (30 min) of focused communication with as little
distraction as possible. I did find that my husband and I enjoyed each other
more when we tried it for a few weeks-of course our kids are old enough to
entertain themselves quite well. The Ezzo's totally bash child centered
parenting, basically saying the devil will get you for the idolitry of
worshiping your children.Their definition of childcentered is what I have
seen in some families where everything revolves around keeping the child
happy even when they want to persist in a behavior that is not acceptable to
the parents. Even though I did that with my babies there was a point where we
did put limits on our children (using good communication and common sense)
and expect them to respect us by following our direction. The thing I hate
about this class is you can't ask a video questions, and the couple
"teaching" our class has not a clue about child development etc. Their kids
are 30+. I can only imagine what is to come in the next 12 classes.
Unfortunately I have to sign off lactnet for a few months during our move and
I will miss the information shared. I'll be back in the fall if everything
goes smoothly with our move!
