Hi all,
This saga continues and I would SO appreciate some tips as I'm somewhat at a
loss........
update;
spoke to Mom 1wk after above consult, she was pumping and bottle
fdng-couldn't deal with the shield.
called back again a few days later, supply had dropped off, baby getting lots
of formula- gave tips to increase supply, suggested trying baby again at
breast...
spoke with her again a week later; now taking reglan as prescribed by MD with
no effect, would like consult to try again at breast....
consult provided; baby difficult to latch but success with assistance. Left
Mom with alternatives; try long span (8hrs. or so) of cont'd reattempts at
breast (no alt fdng methods) then reassess progress or try shield again.
Mom elected to try prolonged period of just nursing....called next day to say
things were going great but nipples were starting to hurt again, called again
t-day, four days later- nipples are abraded bil and bleeding AGAIN! GRRR!
Mom is back to pumping and bottle fdng. Her plan is to wait for nipples to
heal over, again, then bring me back once she resumes nursing.
She has been using lansinoh since pain returned.
At time of last consult baby did have tendency to chew on nipple but my
thought was that would improve with time and practice.
I'm also wondering if her own baseline nipple characteritics/integrity could
be factoring into this in any way ie. they are not symmetrical, and have an
irregular border.
Sorry to ramble so, any thoughts?
