I have another question about appropriate use of fenugreek and other supply-
support herbs.

An acquaitance, who like myself has ***no*** formal training or accreditation
but has come to do a lot of informal counseling and support, told me recently
that she gives women she knows, *before they deliver*, a basket with lots of
bf support stuff -- pillow, etc -- including capsules of fenugreek, blessed
thistle, and fennel, all of which she recommends they take starting on day 5
*regardless of how their bf is going then.*

Her idea is that most problems are caused by lack of confidence about supply
leading to supplementation and, in her words, "when they see that milk just
leaking and spraying all over they just know their babies are getting enough."

Do you folks have opinions about the wisdom of this? I had two kinds of
concerns:
a) first of all most of the new moms I know who supplement because they
weren't confident enough about supply to fend off the dad or grandma with a
bottle all have that experience very early -- usually day 2,3,4.
b) second, isn't there some risk from oversupply if you are medicating moms
who would do fine without the help?

I have recommended these herbs to moms who are *already concerned* about their
supply, but wonder what you all think about this idea of recommending it to
everybody.

Thanks -- I continue to learn from you all daily.
