Hmmm, I'm not quite sure about this one, but here goes...

My sister in London gave birth Oct. 8 and is one of the ilk to sort of
pay "lip service" to breastfeeding because "the milk is there," and yeah
yeah we all know about those so-called benefits - but frankly and freely
admits to not enjoying it and not getting any type of bonding pleasure
from the baby's nursing at the breast :-(. I am, of course, a fanatic and
way out there in her estimation. HOWEVER, she has consulted me previously,
and now asks the question whether there is any benefit to continuing
to "give breastmilk" (EBM, I presume, not breastfeed)"once or twice a day"
until baby's completely on formula, which she plans on anyway by six
weeks. She cites those who say there's no anti-infective benefit, as
opposed to the others who tell her "there are more concentrated
antibodies" in the fewer feedings (?!).

I didn't think this was a trick question at first, but now I'm wondering
how to respond in a reflective, balanced way that doesn't make her go, "Oh
sure, might have known you'd say that." I actually checked the archives to
find some sort of reference, but to be honest, once or twice a day doesn't
seem to get much of a nod in terms of benefits in the scanty references on
partial breastfeeding.

What would any of you wise ones say?
