Agree with CWG. Anemic people will absorb iron at a higher rate than non-
anemic persons as long as it is in the diet. Considering how important iron
is for the development of normal cognition, I would recommend iron
supplements for 1-2 months to tank up the normal body stores. When a child
becomes anemic the total body iron is really low, assuming that the anemia
is due to iron deficiency. Toddlers are at risk for iron deficiency because
of their picky eating habits. Many will develop pica (eating strange
objects such as dirt) and or pagophagia (craving ice).
