Hello all,
I've been lerking for a while but I am still here. I need to probe your
collective wisdom, this time for myself.
It's been 16 weeks since the sepsis was diagnosed and now 10 weeks off the
massive IV antibiotics (that had their own side-effects). I have never been
so *washed-out* in my life!! A simple trip to physical therapy wipes me out
for the rest of the day (half hour driving and 1 hour there). I get winded
walking up a flight of stairs in my house. The feeling of fatigue is
indescribable and I am expected to return to work on Sept. 22. The doctor
will not extend my leave.
My temperature has never dropped below 99.4 F. I have frequent episodes of
*cold sweating* and am very intolerant of environmental changes, especially
if it gets hotter.
My last blood test 10 weeks ago was OK. The doctor says there is no use in
doing any more blood work because he is sure my sedimentation rate is still
up. Doesn't that mean I still have an infection?
What I need to know is how long does it take to recover from sepsis? A nurse
practitioner told me that such massive sepsis takes about a year to get over.
Is this true? Have any of you dealt with this in your practice? Do any of you
think something else might be going on?
I am at wits end. I can't understand why I am not getting better. Any help
you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
