If this "misshapen baby" thing were true, I have a hunch that lactnuts would
have a hugely disproportionate number of deformed babies.

The misinformation out there with nurses is scary.  I was at a hospital this
week (private, cushy...very different from the teaching hospital where I also
work).  The nurse I was with was conducting an intake assessment on a patient.
She asked about previous surgery.  The only one the patient had was a breast
augmentation.  The nurse looked at her and said "You realize that you probably
won't be able to breastfeed, don't you?".  I was shocked.   I quietly told the
mother that she should certainly initiate BF as soon as possible after delivery
and to ask for an LC to visit here when she was on PP.
