I am a Leader and ACLA (someone who helps accredit new Leaders) for LLLI.
The quote, "On the other hand, La Leche League demands women who mother, do
nothing but mother" is not a clear representation of La Leche League's
guiding philosophy at all. The philosophy can be viewed here:
http://www.llli.org/philosophy.html

Two parts of the philosophy read:

* Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a
satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.

* In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother
which is as basic as his need for food.

While La Leche League does recognize the baby's needs for attachment La
Leche league also realizes that there are many creative and loving ways that
mothers meet their baby's needs.

La Leche League's mission is simply to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed
through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education,
and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important
element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.
