I agree, and also, a baby has to free his/her fingers up to play with
them, whereas one often sees babies playing around with the paci in
their mouth.

I agree with Teresa here.  I'd have loved to meet all Sandrine's sucking
needs at the breast.  Unfortunately with OSS/OALD she just screamed if I
tried to let her nurse when she was no longer hungry.  Until she was 3.5
months and found her fingers.  She obviously had a big sucking need.  I
was told it would be wise to let her suck on a paci. because of the
OSS/OALD, but I could never get her to take it...she hadn't had one
before 6 weeks, and by then she didn'T have a clue what to do with it
(same with bottles!) and just gagged and/or spit it out.
