Regarding the mom who said she was told there was more infant botulism in
breastfed babies.  I'm afraid this will be pretty vague because it was a long
time ago, but when I was pregnant with my son (who will be 16 mext month), I
donated colostrum both pre and post-delivery for a study that was being done
on infant botulism as a cause of SIDS.  The woman who was working on the study
told me that at first they were puzzled by the fact that hospital records
showed more breastfed infants admitted for botulism.  Then they figured out
that what was happening was that the bottlefed babies with botulism were more
likely to die of SIDS and not even make it to the hospital.  That the
protective effects of human milk were allowing the breastfed babies to survive
to make it to the hospital.  Perhaps someone else is familiar with this study.
I unfortunately have long ago lost any written record I may have had of it.
Maybe that was the basis of what she was told.
