Laura:  I agree with Dr. Hale's comments, and would add that as
previously discussed the cholesterol during lactation often has a high
HDL component which makes it less risky.  If this woman was already on
mevacor prior to her pregnancy, perhaps she is older(i.e. closer to the
menopause) and/or has other cardiac risk factors such as high blood
pressure, diabetes, smoking and a family history of early heart attacks.
In the absence of these, and if her cholesterol level was not much over
300 total with a high proportion of HDL, it would be better to breastfeed
without mevacor and re-evaluate after she weans.  Hope this helps.
