so what? so is advertising for formula that states "most like mother's milk."
i don't parrot advice just because its in a book somewhere.

 i rarely have anyone asking me what to do about their nipples when
everything is just fine. so the advice i give is based upon the individual's
state. also, i live in a very dry place, so i suggest lanolin use more than i
would if i lived in a humid place. putting the advice to "not wash" in any
sort of informational text in order to forestall other, more extreme
practices is not rational. this is like all the advice that states 'get the
entire areola in the baby's mouth' and then mother's are so upset because
they can't.

i can't imagine that dry skin alone would lead to nipple damage. dry skin
accompanied by other factors might precipitate nipple damage.
