"I saw this piktochart on facebook and was wondering why it was not stated
in language to make breastfeeding the norm? I was especially disappointed
because it was developed by a (the?) professional breastfeeding
organization. Is it too much to ask that new publications state the risks
of formula feeds vs the benefits of breastfeeding? Is it just that the
language is more awkward that way?

I chose not to share it on my social media because of this."

Sally,
The US Lactation Consultant Association created the infograph as a means of
pointing out how breastfeeding affects women's health. Very often,
information emphasizes the infant and neglects the effects of lactation on
the mother. We usually word our publications when possible to show the
risks of formula feeding but did not do so with this document as we wished
to appeal to a greatly diverse audience and avoid negative overtones. We
felt that this approach was a better fit for the overall theme of the week
being celebrated which was not breastfeeding but the more general topic of
women's health. I am sorry you felt unable to share this on your social
media. The infograph is on the USLCA website at www.uslca.org and on its
Facebook page.
