A 2 day old infant has desated x3 when at the breast. The infant turned bright red and then purple with the first 2 attempts at the breast and then was bottlefeed after that with no problems. Mother was able to attempt breastfeeding again this am but child once again destated during this time. Any ideas? Oral anatomy appears normal. Mother still with colostrum so its not a large let down factor. Infant does spit up and doctors think it could be reflux. But I don't understand how the breastfeeding would make such an affect.
