I have worked with a lovely Hispanic couple this past week whose few days
old baby was fussy and apparently not getting enough to eat. Not
realizing this, the grandparents made a tea from "yerba buena",
translated as the "good weed", which apparently grows wild here in Santa
Maria. 1 oz of this tea put baby to sleep for 3-4 hours, and seems to be
a folk remedy. I pulled out my herb books and tried to get the parents to
identify it, but the closest we came was to raspberry leaf, which it
definitely is not. Does anyone know more about this herb, such as its
proper name, and possibly the active ingredients? It is new to me, and I
would like to find out more about it.
-Lisa, in Santa Maria, CA
