An update on the mom with low milk supply. She reports that she had
borderline GD. She also revealed that she did have thyroid evaluated at one
point early in the pregnancy due to several previous miscarriages, as her
thyroid has always been on the low side of average--low enough to cause a
weight problem, but not low enough from a medical standpoint to require
treatment. Her OB told her that being pg alters some of the normal results
of thyroid tests, so he only ran a couple, and these were normal. She did
have PPD to some degree. She read that thyroiditis can cause PPD, is this
true and could it be a factor here? Her OB and ped continue to be reluctant
to help her resolve this as they feel she should have given up weeks ago.
She called yesterday to ask about Reglan; the OB said to ask the ped; the
ped said it was an OB/GYN problem and wouldn't do anything for her! Neither
office will investigate the possibility that this med could help her! She
said that the only bf-friendly nurse at the OB office told her that Reglan
only works while you take it, and can only be taken for a week or so, and
would not drastically increase supply. True?

She is encouraged by the responses from Lactnet that mentioned SNS and
finger feeding and wonders what diameter tube she should be using for a 10
weeker. I've talked with her about the thread on Lactnet/Lactivist
"Bottlefeeding like a breastfeeder" and she was encouraged at this thought.
She also reported that while previously the baby seemed to have "lost
interest" in the breast, last night she grabbed at it, and she nursed 10
mins on one side and 25 on the other. She yanked her head back often in
frustration as she was not getting much, but darn it, she sure tried! So I
think the SNS will work but I need to find out what diameter tube to get.

I am getting such a crash course with this one and I am so jazzed that this
mom and I seem to have connected and she is remaining upbeat about this.
Thanks Lactnetters! I remain forever grateful!!
On to phase two?

Cheers
