Dear All,
Regarding the fast breathing infant, I feel it does warrant attention and
now. Unless there is a forceful MER or huge milk supply causing the infant
to detach and kind of reorient himself to breathing, I would suspect cardiac
or respiratory complications or. (or perhaps a probem with the suck, swallow,
breathe cycle?) It would be best if she could take her infant to the NICU
to be evaluated DURING A FEED so they can witness the event as that seems to
be when the infant has problems per your note. They would be the most
experienced in catching the sometimes subtle nuances presented by neonates.
Above all, we should validate the fact the the mother is concerned and take
it seriously, they are almost always right.
