I'm working with a mom who wants to relactate.  She stopped nursing when baby
was a month old, doc recommended because of severe mastitis (!).  The milk
from affected breast was green and "smelly".  Baby is now three months old.
Mom has tried many formulas, and baby has reacted to them all with symptoms
including rashes, hives, diahreah, non-stop screaming and not sleeping.  Since
Saturday, baby has been receiving donated breastmilk from mom's cousin, and
baby is now happy, sleeping and content.  Cousin only has enough milk to
donate for another day or so.  Mom started pumping with an Evenflo double pump
a few days ago and is getting drops out of one breast, and from the one she
had mastitis in, white globs are coming out.  Baby refuses to latch on and
actively refuses the breast.  Here are my questions:
-what could the white blobs be?
-would most doctors consider her a candidate for donor milk until her own milk
supply increases?
I encouraged  her to increase skin to skin contact, try nursing when baby is
sleepy, try having baby latch onto bottle and breast at the same time, get
lots of rest, sleep with baby, keep pumping, all of the standard things, and
also to call her doctor and inquire about the donor milk.  Did I miss
anything?  I've never worked with a mom who was trying to relactate before.
Any advice???
