Dear Rachel,
What a great opportunity!
I think I would talk about the baby's need for contact - skin to skin, lying
on mama or papa, in arms - how the baby feels safe & secure & "home" with
physical contact, and that the need for close contact is just as, if not
more important than food - and breastfeeding provides that emotional &
physical security and "food for body & soul" all at the same time - along
the lines of Nils Bergman's approach of the mother as the baby's natural
habitat - of course, a picture is worth a 1000 words, if you could show a
baby nestling against her mother's breast, feeding, sleeping - and catch
the incredible look of a mother watching her baby in arms...

Also that the early days give time for mother & baby to know each other,
rest together & learn about breastfeeding together and that you are there to
help them in this adventure!

I just paraphrased the above and timed it - about 45 seconds! so still lots
of time for more info...do let us know what you decide to say, I'm sure iit
will be wonderful.

Maybe something about the overwhelming feelings at becoming a parent - &
that breastfeeding smooths the way thanks to prolactin & oxytocine - & that
breastfeeding is not supposed to hurt & not to hesitate to ask for help or
ask questions.

15 more seconds gone! another 60 seconds left!

Have fun with this !

Warmly,
Juanita

>For our unit's website I've been asked to contribute a script for two
minutes of spoken info about BF to accompany footage showing a mother
breastfeeding for the first time. Yes, two whole minutes! The intended
audience are pregnant women and their partners who may be taking a look at
the website to be informed in advance of the birth about how our ward
works. It's not meant to be enough info to be able to BF, just enough to
let them know that BF is a big part of their postpartum stay and some
tidbits about BF that they shouldn't be without.
>I have a couple of topics I definitely want to mention, but I thought I
would ask here for comments. What would you include if you had 120 seconds
at your complete disposal?
