A letter tonight in Ann Landers discusses the problem of latex allergy. In
my youth, I learned that "latex" was a product made from rubber. Is this
correct? How many latex allergy sufferers were sensitized to latex
vis-a-vis nipples or pacifiers in their infancy? In our area, one can
purchase either "rubber" or "silicone" bottle nipples and pacifiers. I
understand the rubber nipples have been suspected for years of being
carcinogenic due to the vulcanizing process, but now I have to wonder: Do
today's rubber nipples or pacifiers contain ANY latex? How can we know
that they do not? Do ALL rubber nipples contain latex?
