Dear All,
I am so happy to share today's experiences with you all!
I saw a mom today of quads- I truly felt honored to be able to help her and be a part of this story!
She entered the hospital at 25 weeks with everyone praying she would make it to 28. She had a c-sec ten days ago at 36 weeks! She had 3 boys and one girl. The biggest was 2.580 kilo, and the smallest was 2.085 kilo. She was carrying 19 3/4 lbs of just babies. Within 2 days she had lost 20kilo.
None of the babies were ever in the NICU. Everyone was healthy and absolutely beautiful.
More amazingly, each one nursed within the first 24 hours.
2 boys had their Bris at 10 days which is just 2 days late, and the third had his Bris today at 13 days.
I saw her today and she nursed 3 at a time. I basically only helped them get a drop deeper latch, and was there to hand her babies when she rotated. Each one of them ate 50-55 cc in a pretty short amount of time. I thought it was so interesting they all ate basically the same amount, some all at once, and some in "two" shifts. Nursing all three took only about 40 minutes, and that was with adjusting, teaching, relatching, weighing, etc. Afterwards, she felt pretty empty, and we talked and went over things for the next half hour. Then they called her from the nursery that number 4 was hungry and she wanted to practice a good latch anyway, so she took him. He had finished 55 cc in about 10 minutes! It was a perfect way to show the mom that her breast replenishes according to the needs of her children!
What a wonderful consult it was! I wish you had all been there to see these babies know exactly what they were meant to do, and to just do it right!
I think every once in a while we are all sent these types of consults to replenish our juices and remind us of how it is supposed to be!

Feeling great but exhausted...
