The risks of not breastfeeding are greater to the baby of breastfeeding and
smoking. The decision is up to the mother and I would encourage her to
breastfeed. Especially since there are articles which have shown that not
breastfeeding and smoking results in greater morbidity for the baby than
smoking and breastfeeding.

One of the articles in the Risk of Artificial Feeding (see websites below),
showed this very well. Conclusion of the authors? We should encourage
formula feeding women not to smoke. Typical. Not we should encourage women
to breastfeed. No, that might make them feel guilty. AAARGH.

The nictotine patch is *not* contraindicated during breastfeeding.
